X.25. This is a packet-switched network standard developed to provide communication across public data networks (PDNs). It defines how connections are established and data is transferred. An example of a vendor providing X.25 solutions is Sangoma Technologies. See Sangoma Technologies X.25.
Frame Relay. This is a packet-switching telecommunication service designed for cost-efficient data transmission for intermittent traffic between local area networks (LANs) and between end-points over a wide area network (WAN). It is covered in texts such as those by Stallings.
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). ATM is a cell-switching technology that encodes data into small, fixed-sized cells. It is connection-oriented and used for carrying voice, video, and data traffic. More details can be found in network architecture books like those by Kizza.
