Bluetooth is considered a Personal Area Network (PAN) because it enables short-range wireless communication between devices within a very limited personal operating space, typically up to 10 meters. Its primary purpose is to connect an individual's devices, such as mobile phones, headphones, keyboards, and mice, to each other or to a computer, facilitating functions like file transfer, audio streaming, or peripheral control, rather than providing general network access over a larger area.
Bluetooth uses the IEEE 802.15.1 standard, which is based on the core Bluetooth specification developed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG).
